Mediation Can Lessen the Load
Going through a divorce is difficult. By using the mediation process, divorcing couples can gain control, save money and start the healing process. Divorce mediation limits the adversarial nature of the matter and allows the parties to participate in a more meaningful way. In Divorce Mediation, the parties make the decision as to how the dissolution of marriage will work out.
SAVING MONEY
Mediation costs much less than litigation. There is significantly less time spent on the matter so the time spent by the mediator is very limited, compared to that of a lawyer. All fees are charged on an hourly basis and any work performed is at a flat rate. So the clients know the cost of the process up front. No retainer is required and fees can be paid by credit card using PayPal.
SAVING TIME
A couple who is ready to go through the divorce process can receive a Final Judgement within six to eight weeks of the first appointment with the mediator in an uncontested divorce. A productive mediation conference can occur at the first meeting with the final paperwork being executed within one to two weeks of the conference. Some couples choose to go straight to the courthouse to file their Petition for Divorce after signing the documents at the mediation office.
In contested divorce cases, when the parties are represented by an attorney, the process may take longer as the Marital Settlement Agreement is provided to the lawyers to file and process.
PROVIDING CONTROL
The mediation process allows the divorcing couple, the ones whose lives are affected, to have control. With the assistance of a skilled and neutral mediator, even the most adversarial people can focus on the decsisions that need to be made. All decisions ultimately are made by the couple, not by the mediator, in a safe and constructive setting.
